Solidworks Curved Slot Mate

If the surfaces aren't being recognized properly for mates, open each individual part and run important diagnostics then see if they respond as expected. Like the other comments said, you're looking for a tangent mate to make two curved surfaces touch, tangent mates are sometimes a bit funky if they're complex curves though. Using the Edge of the “D” Bore signals SOLIDWORKS to apply two mates in the assembly; a concentric to the shaft OD and a coincident to the end face of the shaft. One thing to keep in mind is the coincident mate will be placed as anti-aligned and can be switched to aligned by using the Tab key.

3D slot feature with tangent mate in Solid Works

  • Add a tangent mate between the side face of the slot and the cylindrical face of the second part. Then add a distance mate with the bottom/side face depending upon the location of your slot with the corresponding plane/temporary axis of the pin.
  • While in SOLIDWORKS’ assembly mode, go to Insert and select Mate Controller, the third option from the top. Depending on the version of SOLIDWORKS you are using, the menu should look something like this. The symbol mimics a robot arm, which is a perfect example for mate controller. The menu has three sections: Mates, Mates Positions.

Using Slot Mate Solidworks

I am trying to put a tangent mate on a 3-D slot in Solid works. The slotted part is a tube.
Initially, the slot comes out straight and then curves by a quarter helical turn. I created the feature with 2 cuts, i.e. a straight cut & a helical swept cut. The corners can be filletted to get a single surface on the slot.
Normally to achieve a tangent mate, a fitted spline is required in the sketch. This works fine when the slot is 2-D, i.e. a single cut. But it wont work with a 3-D feature.
To get around this, I generated a 3-D spline in a 3-D sketch. But I can not extrude a 3-D slot with a 3-D sketch in the direction I want.Does anyone have any ideas ? Thanks..
