The second event of the 2017 Diamond Poker Classic filled tables at Casino Regina in Saskatchewan’s capital on Thursday. The $600 tournament was the second of four one-day events with each one awarding a champion’s ring to the victor.

At about 1 a.m., the tournament came to an end with Chase Johnston winning the Casino Regina trophy ring and the $15,617 top prize.

Action got started at noon in the Show Lounge — the casino’s theatre which has been converted into a large poker room for the week — and entries came to a total of 104 by the time registration closed a couple of hours later. That created a prize pool of $56,160 to be paid to the top 11 players.

The bubble was burst in the mid-evening and the final table of 10 was set shortly after. Cody B came into the final table with the chip lead of 188,400 chips, followed by Daniel Lamb with 160,200 and Chase Johnston with 128,300. In the very next hand, Corey Douglas three-bat shoved with and was called by , losing the race and finding himself eliminated in ninth for $2,119. Just like that, the final table was down to eight after two flips where the pocket pair held on both times.

Hanging high up on the wall behind the final table are the banners bearing the names of Main Event Champions from the Station Poker Classic, Diamond Poker Classic, and Harvest Poker Classic. Two of those names were at the final table, but the next to be eliminated was one of those players.

Glen Adams three-bet shoved with and was up against . A king on the flop foreshadowed Adams’ elimination, and he collected $2,369 for eighth place.

In seventh place, the other Main Event Champion fell. Chris Bowers got it in with and was up against . Despite hitting two pairs on the flop, the turn gave his opponent a straight, and the river sealed it, knocking out Bowers in seventh for $2,721.

Aaron Chuley busted in sixth place after he was unable to catch a card with against on a nine-high board. He earned $3,232.

Brent Ober finished fifth for $3,992 when he three-bet for everything with against and his opponent found a jack.

In fourth place, Ferosh Tailor pushed all in and found two callers. He held and completely whiffed the board. Both of his opponents had better hands with finding a pair and making a set. He earned $5,165.
